How to make WMU your home

Posted by Lydia Burton on Nov 22, 2017 2:07:38 PM

Those first few weeks after move-in almost seemed like summer camp. It felt like any day I would return to my own bed, home-cooked meals, and of course, my dog. The weeks eventually turned to months without returning to the place I grew up, and I was really missing home. I isolated myself to my dorm room and constantly reminisced about my friends, family, and being able to shower without flip flops on.

Moving to change

Posted by Kyleigh Terris on May 31, 2017 3:53:43 PM

As a BFA dance major at Western Michigan University, I have been offered many incredible opportunities by the Department of Dance. However, the opportunity that has had the greatest impact on not only my dance career, but my character, goals, and ultimately my life, is my participation with a student organization called Movement Exchange.

Movement Exchange is an organization that unites dance and service with the intention of providing dance education to underserved communities and creating equal opportunity for all in regards to the expression and emotional release this art form provides. Not only do we participate in local outreach, offering dance programs to preschools, afterschool programs, retirement communities, and anywhere else we can get our hands on, but every year we are presented with the opportunity to participate in an international outreach program.

A day in the life of a Bronco Marching Band member

Posted by Courtney Clancy on Dec 2, 2016 8:00:00 AM

It's been an incredible year for the Western Michigan University football team. Not only are the Broncos a ranked team with a perfect 12-0 season, but ESPN College GameDay even made a trip to campus this Fall, shining a national spotlight on our hometown team. And on top of that, the Broncos are headed to the MAC championship game tonight at Ford Field.

We know that PJ Fleck's undefeated team has put in countless hours of practice and preparation this season, but they're not the only ones with a rigorous schedule. The Bronco Marching Band, who will also be taking the field in Detroit this evening, have attended daily rehearsals, endured long hours, memorized scores of music, and mastered fast-paced drill movements for a number of half-time shows, all to support the team and delight Bronco fans with the Sound of Western.

The power of dance: WMU Movement Exchange guest post

Posted by Madelyn Donovan on Jun 30, 2016 12:37:00 PM

This past May, a group of 17 WMU dance students ventured to Panama as a part of Movement Exchange, an organization which brings dance education to under-privileged children. Many of these "dance diplomats," as Movement Exchange calls their volunteers, simply hoped to experience a new culture and end the academic year with a week-long adventure in Central America. In reality, they arrived back on campus with more than just stamps in their passports.
